چکیده

AspectJ is a so-called general-purpose aspect-language which tries to solve the problem of crosscutting code. An often uttered criticism of AspectJ is that there is no underlying concept in the implemented language features and that those features are rather arbitrary chosen instead of being based on any theoretical foundations. This paper shows beyond the the context of crosscutting and tangling code how known concepts in objectoriented programming languages can be implemented in AspectJ and argues in that way that AspectJ generalizes a large variety of features which are already known in the objectoriented world. The argumentation is based on the concepts of mixin classes, multidispatching and negative type information which can be implemented by using a small set of AspectJ idioms.

On ASPECTJ and Composition Filters: A Mapping of Concepts

ASPECTJ and composition filters are well-known influential approaches among a wide range of aspect-oriented programming languages that have appeared in the last decade. Although the two approaches are relatively mature and many research works have been devoted to their enhancementand use in practical applications, so far, there has been no attempt that aims at comparing deeply the two approache...

Implementing Coordinated Error Recovery for Distributed Object-Oriented Systems with AspectJ

Exception handling is a very popular technique for incorporating fault tolerance into software systems. However, its use for structuring concurrent, distributed systems is hindered by the fact that the exception handling models of many mainstream object-oriented programming languages are sequential. In this paper we present an aspect-based framework for incorporating concurrent exception handli...

Designing Aspect-Oriented Crosscutting in UML

The Aspect-Oriented Design Model (AODM) is a new design model for the development of AspectJ programs with the UML. It extends existing UML concepts using standard UML extension mechanisms to provide aspect-oriented concepts as they are found in AspectJ. Further, the AODM specifies how an aspect-oriented design model may be transformed into an ordinary UML design model. It demonstrates how this...

Interference Analysis for AspectJ pdfauthor

AspectJ is a language implementing aspect-oriented programming on top of Java. Besides modification of program flow and state using advice, AspectJ offers language elements to statically modify existing classes by changing their position in the inheritance hierarchy or introducing new members. This can lead to binding interference, i.e. the dynamic lookup of method calls not affected directly b...
